1. Not a Medical Device

Haelo is a wellness companion app, not a medical device. In the United Kingdom, medical devices — including Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) — are regulated by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) under the Medical Devices Regulations 2002 (as amended by the Medical Devices (Amendment etc.) (EU Exit) Regulations 2019).

Haelo does not fall within the definition of a medical device under those Regulations. It is not intended to be used for the diagnosis, prevention, monitoring, treatment, or alleviation of any disease or medical condition. It has not been evaluated, CE-marked, UKCA-marked, approved, or certified as a medical device, diagnostic tool, or clinical decision support system by the MHRA or any other regulatory body.

If you are uncertain whether a health app you are using is a medical device, the MHRA publishes guidance on Software as a Medical Device at gov.uk/mhra.

2. Not Medical Advice

Nothing in the Haelo app — including pollen forecasts, personal risk predictions, symptom logs, intelligent alerts, educational articles, research summaries, medication information, or recommendations — constitutes medical advice.

Haelo does not:

  • Diagnose any medical condition, including allergic rhinitis, asthma, or any other condition
  • Prescribe or recommend specific treatments or medications
  • Provide clinical guidance on managing or treating any health condition
  • Replace consultation with a qualified healthcare professional

Pollen risk predictions, health marker correlations, and intelligent alerts are informational tools to help you understand environmental conditions and general patterns. They are not clinical assessments of your individual health status.

3. No Professional Relationship

Using Haelo does not create a professional relationship between you and Haelo Life Ltd, or between you and any healthcare professional. No information exchanged through the app, by email, or through any other channel constitutes or should be construed as medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.

4. Consult a Healthcare Professional

Always consult a qualified doctor, pharmacist, or other healthcare professional before making any decision about your health, including:

  • Starting, stopping, or changing medications (including antihistamines, nasal steroids, or immunotherapy)
  • Interpreting or acting on symptom patterns shown in the app
  • Assessing whether your symptoms indicate a more serious condition
  • Making decisions about exercise, diet, or lifestyle based on pollen or health data

In the UK, the following services are available for non-emergency medical advice:

  • NHS 111 — call or visit 111.nhs.uk for urgent but non-emergency medical queries, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
  • Your GP — for ongoing allergy management, prescriptions, and referrals to NHS allergy clinics
  • Community pharmacist — for advice on over-the-counter antihistamines and nasal sprays without an appointment

If your symptoms are severe, worsening, or significantly interfering with your daily life, seek medical advice promptly. Do not delay seeking medical attention because of information presented in this app.

5. Accuracy of Pollen and Environmental Data

Pollen forecasts and live pollen counts are sourced from third-party data providers (Ambee and the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service). These forecasts are inherently probabilistic and subject to:

  • Geographic variation not captured by postcode-level data
  • Meteorological uncertainty, particularly beyond 2–3 days
  • Differences between measured and actual pollen levels at your specific location
  • Delays in data availability or processing

Pollen forecasts should be used as general guidance only. They cannot predict your individual symptom response and should not be the sole basis for decisions about medication, outdoor activity, or medical care.

6. Personal Risk Predictions

Personal risk predictions are generated by a machine learning model trained on your own logged symptom and HealthKit data. This model:

  • Is statistical in nature and based on correlations, not medical causation
  • Requires a sufficient number of logged days to generate meaningful predictions
  • May become less accurate if your health status, medications, or circumstances change significantly
  • Is not a substitute for professional clinical assessment

Risk level labels ("Low", "Moderate", "High", "Very High") describe relative predicted exposure and symptom likelihood based on your historical patterns. They do not constitute a clinical risk assessment.

7. HealthKit Data

Haelo reads health data from Apple HealthKit (including sleep, heart rate variability, blood oxygen, and respiratory rate) to provide contextual health correlations. This data is:

  • Read from your device's HealthKit store and used to surface general patterns
  • Not interpreted clinically or diagnostically by Haelo
  • Subject to the accuracy limitations of the device and sensor that recorded it (e.g. Apple Watch measurements)

Heart rate variability, SpO₂, and respiratory rate readings from consumer wearables can differ from clinical measurements. Do not use these readings to self-diagnose or self-treat any condition.

8. Medication Information

Information about antihistamines, nasal sprays, and other medications provided in the app (including dosing timing suggestions) is for general educational purposes only. Where we reference evidence for medication timing or efficacy, this is drawn from published research; it does not constitute clinical guidance tailored to your situation and does not necessarily reflect current NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) guidelines or your local NHS formulary.

Always follow the instructions on your medication packaging and the advice of your prescriber or pharmacist. The British National Formulary (BNF) is the authoritative reference for UK prescribers and is available free at bnf.nice.org.uk. Do not alter your prescribed medication based solely on information presented in this app.

9. Biomarker Data

Haelo allows you to upload IgE blood test results and allergy-relevant genetic data. This information is used to personalise your experience. It is not interpreted as a clinical diagnosis. IgE levels and genetic variants are one input among many in understanding allergy — a qualified allergist or clinical immunologist is best placed to interpret these results in the context of your full medical history.

10. Community Data

Community symptom statistics shown in the app represent aggregated, anonymised data from other users in your postcode area. They reflect self-reported symptom data, not clinically validated measurements. Community data should not be used to make individual health decisions.

11. Emergency Situations

Haelo is not designed for use in medical emergencies.

If you experience severe symptoms such as:

  • Difficulty breathing or sudden severe shortness of breath
  • Severe swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat (angioedema)
  • Rapid heartbeat, dizziness, or collapse
  • Signs of anaphylaxis (a severe, life-threatening allergic reaction)

Call 999 immediately. Anaphylaxis is a medical emergency. If you have been prescribed an adrenaline auto-injector (e.g. EpiPen), use it as instructed while waiting for emergency services.

For urgent but non-life-threatening symptoms, call NHS 111 or visit 111.nhs.uk.

Do not use this app as a substitute for emergency or urgent medical care.

12. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law — including the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and the Unfair Contract Terms Act 1977 — Haelo Life Ltd shall not be liable for any harm, loss, or damage arising from:

  • Reliance on pollen forecasts, risk predictions, or recommendations in the app
  • Decisions about medication, medical treatment, or healthcare made on the basis of information in the app
  • Inaccuracies in third-party pollen or weather data sourced from Ambee or Copernicus CAMS
  • Inaccuracies in HealthKit measurements from consumer devices (e.g. Apple Watch)
  • Failure to seek timely medical advice

Nothing in this disclaimer excludes liability for:

  • Death or personal injury caused by our negligence
  • Fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation
  • Any other liability that cannot be excluded under UK law

Your statutory rights as a consumer under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 are not affected by this disclaimer.
